The Owensboro Museum of Science and History is looking for volunteers. There are many opportunities for you to share your interest, passion, or expertise in science and history with our visitors and students. All museum volunteers receive an orientation to the museum and the exhibits.
The following positions are just a few of the volunteer openings we have at the museum.
Tour Docents
Tour Docents assist with school and adult tours of the museum. Hours vary with the number and types of groups scheduled each day.
Program Assistants
Ford Government Gallery Program Assistants are needed to lead games and other activities for students participating in the various programs that are offered. Hours vary with the number and types of groups scheduled each day.
Clerical Assistants
Clerical Assistants are needed at various times of the year to prepare bulk mailings and other duties as needed.
Maintenance Assistants
Exhibit Prep and Maintenance Assistants help the Curator of Exhibits keep our museum in good shape. Flexible hours.
Special Event Assistants
Special Event Assistants are needed throughout the year to assist museum staff in preparing and hosting various programs, presentations and fundraisers.
Junior Volunteers
The Owensboro Museum of Science and History also has a Junior Volunteer program for students aged 12-17. A core group of 10-15 students is chosen from applicants that show maturity, ability, and the willingness to help others. The program year runs from June until April, with the program’s new applications taken in April and early May. Students help with summer programs and activities and are given the opportunity to volunteer at the museum during many of the special events that take place during the school year at the museum. Orientation and training are given to those chosen to participate in the program.
